Due to the fires burning in Eaton Canyon and Pacific Palisades, CGPU and other local UAW-affiliated unions are putting together a network of resources and volunteers willing to host evacuees.
If you need to evacuate: Use this form to be connected to a host.
If you can host evacuees (you must live outside of an evacuation zone): Fill out the relevant fields in the same form.
Additional safety tips:
- Apps such as Watch Duty have accurate information on evacuation zones.
- Sign up for LA County Emergency Alerts.
- Please stay indoors as much as you can, and wear a mask if you are going outside.
- Have a bag packed and ready in case you need to evacuate. International scholars should take all relevant visa and work permit papers as well as their passports.
- Please do not drive unnecessarily unless you are evacuating. This keeps the roads open for emergency personnel.
As LA County officials have stated, this is a rapidly evolving scenario, and we encourage our community to take actions that prioritize their health. Caltech safety officers and administration have closed campus today (January 8th) and are sending out emergency notifications as the situation develops. We strongly recommend following their guidance, and encourage everyone outside an evacuation zone to stay at home. If you need assistance in communicating your health/safety needs to your PI or supervisor, please reach out to us.
Stay safe,
Your CGPU Bargaining and Organizing Committees
